Cancer is one of the diseases most represented in the audiovisual field. Five diverse short films that are characterized by three issues: the fight to overcome the disease, the mutual support of relatives of affected people and the changes that it produces in the perceptions about life, work and the affective environment.

CONTEXTS (1)

In this block seven short films are presented in which the disease is presented as part of life, not as something exceptional, but in the same context. Suffering, adaptation to adverse circumstances through music, practicing medicine in rural areas or a hard reflection on how the art world understands disease, are some of the themes that we will find in this block.

CARES

Four short films that show the field of cares facilitated by those who care for people in the processes of cronicity. Some show how the people in charge condition life, but this does not preclude reflection on old age and death; Others show us disconcerting end result of overwhelming dependence.

ABISMS

Alzheimer’s as a kind of “cognitive abyss”, is what evidences the short films that we present in this section. But the idea of abyss is more a construction of the accompanying than of the subjects to the disease. This is how we perceive and narrate this disease, when ideas, names, acts and people fade into the minds of those around us.
