|The Human Library
HUMAN LIBRARY is an initiative born in Denmark 15 years ago with the aim of creating spaces for dialogue through which to create social cohesion and promote respect for diversity. For the first time it is celebrated in Valencia in the context of 3FICAE
This methodology wants to break with stereotypes, social stigmas, prejudices and discrimination. In practice, it is a matter of giving the public the opportunity to have conversations with people they would not normally have contact with, so that they tell their personal story and help them break down barriers that might exist between them.
This is done simulating a library, where the public enters and reserves the “human book” with which they want to talk and is assigned a 20-minute shift so they can talk.
With 7 human books: Unemployed, Gypsy, Sex worker, Gay male seropositive, Caregiver with low income, Person with mental disorder and Person with functional diversity.
