In 2012, Royal Decree-Law 16/2012, of April 20, approved urgent measures to guarantee the National Health System’s sustainability and improve the quality and safety of its services. This decree was approved by the conservative government of Mariano Rajoy, with Ana Mato as Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality.
The sanitary system gives a change since the publication of this Royal Decree. The principle of universality ceases to be applicable in access to the Spanish health system and is transferred to a model of insurance under which will be those people who are quoting for their work who have recognized the right to health care.
Therefore, all those persons who do not have the status of insured or beneficiaries are excluded, and this change directly affects the immigrant population in an irregular situation that will no longer have equal access to the Spanish population, as collected The legislation of foreigners before being modified by the same Royal Decree.
Following the application of the RD16 / 2012 that excludes undocumented people from care by the health system, a group of professionals from the Son Gotleu health center in Mallorca are wondering what will have happened to their patients. This video shows the results of this research.
